I popped over to bloglines and read some of my feeds.
Shrinky posted some pictures of an annual event that occurs in her lovely hometown. If you are of the faint hearted persuasion...I would not enlarge the group picture.

Managing the cold
As you have heard us Floridians complain about last week. It got cold here. In fact, we had freezing temperatures. Now, while most of the United States has been suffering through this type of weather for months, we have not.
Most Floridians are tender, hot house flowers who cannot stand the cold. We live here for a reason, we do not want the cold, we do not want snow or freezing temperatures. We are much like my lovely Plumeria trees. Delicate.
So, how do we prepare when it gets cold? We pull out our sweatshirts, sweaters, whatever long sleeved items we have kept from our days up North and dress in layers.
But, how do we protect those innocent, delicate plants that cannot stand the cold? How do we keep them warm on these awful, freezing nights? Freezing nights with wind, that won't allow sheets to stay in place?
We get creative...

Storm Results
The cold front that came through here struck at 5:00 am Sunday. It consisted of rain and lots and lots of wind. In fact, the wind became a tornado and struck our local county jail.
The section of the jail it struck is considered one of those "temporary" buildings. It houses the Trustys. (by the way, this is not a typo, this is how Trusty is spelt at the jail) Those prisoners who are "trustworthy" enough to be allowed special privileges. Such as sleeping in a tent like structure, picking up road side trash, serving meals, etc. No one was injured, they were able to evacuate the 200+ individuals before it actually struck. Now the problem is where are they going to house them? Our jail is already really overcrowded. Several neighboring counties have offered to take them until some repairs can be done.
The power was also out at the jail and eastward across the county. One of the power companies was working really hard to restore the power. The jail was on backup generator.
The local news channel spent most of the day covering this story. They also spent a good deal of time announcing that visitation at the jail was suspended for the next few days.
How much do you want to bet that some of these prisoners will now file a grievance against the county and the jail because they did not get their visitation? How many are going to file grievances about the additional overcrowding conditions? I bet someone will even complain about not getting enough sleep Sunday morning due to the evacuation.
We US citizens give prisoners way too many rights!!
Oh and Pee Ess: It is a fucking cold here! In case you don't know, I don't like the cold, I am not happy in the cold! Shit, where are my gloves, I have to drive to work!!

Brrr
Well, it looks like it might get cold here. Yup, we are going to have the remains of sub-tropical storm Olga pass through the state of Florida. (Sub Tropical What???? What the hell is that??)
Where we are located, we are already receiving some rain (which we need). The temp has dropped into the lower 70's. By tomorrow afternoon, we will be having some wind and some more rain in the afternoon.
The major portion should come across here early am on Sunday.
I think I need to get my long sleeve shirts and my blue jeans out. OMG!!! I may have to put on socks, it is not supposed to get above 60 degrees tomorrow!!
For all of you up North, North East, Mid West, Mid America, (etc) suffering through the ice storms, power outages, snow, freezing weather, I live in Florida for a reason...heat, humidity, and more heat. Anything below 70 is cold to me. But my Best wishes and warm thoughts are with each of you and I do have a spare bedroom!!

For Your Viewing Pleasure
The party turned out great. We only had a line for the bathroom a couple of times. About 70 people showed up.

I May Not Have Thought This Out Completely...
Hmm...
We are getting ready for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary Party. I am thinking that we may have a slight logistical problem.
See, since my father went back into the hospital a few weeks ago, he doesn't travel real well. So we decided to move the party from a large venue to their house and "supposedly" cut down on the guest list. Only close friends and family.
I, of course, was in Florida for the planning part. My sister was here in Washington State. My sister and mother were in charge of the guest list. It seems we only cut down the guest list by two or three people and that is because they are out of town.
Big deal most people would think. Three bedroom house, enclosed heated garage..all is good.
Yup, three bedroom house, built in 1946...it only has one bathroom.
And even if we did order a Port-A-Potty, it is only 28 degrees.
Anyone have an extra coffee can? Or some depends?
