One year ago today, while driving to work , I answered a call on my cell phone. It was my friend Lynette, she broke the news that another friend of ours Jeff, had died early that morning. His widow was in another state making arrangements for her mothers funeral.
Jeff was in the hospital, expecting to come home soon. Friends who had been with him the night before say he was on his laptop creating recipes of things he could eat. He was in good spirits, relatively good health in spite of everything else going on.
Today, at approximately the same time, as I am driving to work my cell phone rang again. It was Lynette, I almost did not answer.
She was just checking to see how I was doing.

My condolences.
And his poor widow! Being hit with all of that at once. What a shame.
thats horrible.
I wouldn't have answered the phone at all
J-Thanks, she is not doing real well today, needless to say.
Blue-believe me it crossed my mind. I was shaking the rest of the way to work (1 hour drive)
Hang in there. The first anniversary is the hardest and sometimes it never gets any easier. Whenever I feel that sorry I just focus on breathing and suprisingly enough it helps.
adw-thanks, it got worse for this family. a cousin died two weeks later.
That is really sad. I lost my sister in 2005, and it is still hard. I think I would have hesitated to answer the phone too.
