Best Christmas Gift!!

I guess I didn't share my Christmas gift with you, my internet friends.

Not A Grampy gave me a portable GPS unit for Christmas. See, I do quite a bit of driving. Yeah, my car is only 2 years old and has pretty close to 60,000 miles on it. I used Mapquest quite a bit, but I guess Not A Grampy wanted me to be safer.

It is fun, I pop it in the car, enter the destination and there you go, directions.

There are two voices, Samanta (yeah that is not a typo, that is how it is spelled) a female voice that not only tells you when to turn right or left, but also includes the names of the streets that you are turning onto.

Then there is Jason, the male voice. He must not be as smart because he doesn't include the names of the streets. I find it quite amusing that they use a male voice at all. We all know that men don't do directions well.

Anyway, I digress. I usually use Jason, just because I like hearing a male voice giving directions. What I didn't expect is that I would get so close to Jason.

If I don't follow the directions exactly, Jason will tell me to "when safe conduct a u-turn" or he will say "in 400 feet turn right".

I actually have to tell Jason that his directions are not correct that this way is quicker/closer. Once I tell him that he corrects his directions. Of course he does insist two or three more time that I make a right or left turn. But, he finally gets it.

Yeah, I talk to Jason. I warn him if I am making an unscheduled stop or detour.

Did you get the TomTom? I got that for my wife, too.

And I hooked it up to the computer and downloaded John Cleese (from Monty Python) as the voice.

She loves it.

You made me laugh with that part!

Hubs' friend has a gps thingy and wanted to show us how it worked so he started pushing buttons and the car yelled at him that he had to pull over and stop the car first. It was hilarious.

OOOH! I got the TomTom for Christmas from my inlaws and I LOVE it!

I let it tell me the way to and from work every day. Because I'm a GPS dork like that.

avitable-It is a harmon/karon and will play movies, music, pictures if I can figure it out!! It also has a remote that attaches separate so you don't have to worry about too much touch screen activity.

blue-I have to press a button and agree to "not operate this device or view video while driving." It also reminds me to "obey all traffic laws". huh??

britt-how do you think I found out that "Jason" doesn't really know the right ways? Yup, too and from work, me too.

It's funny, I have a Lor/Lor (Tom Tom) and I always talk to her too...I almost always thank her for directions, except that one time she had me cross 6 lanes of traffic only to change her mind and have me cross back...I dont' think you could consider what I said to her that time as thanking her, but for the most part, I talk to her quite a bit.

I want that one. What kind is it? You know the reason that I want that one is because my husband's name is Jason. That would be funny.
