Memory Lane

School started today. I don't have any school age children living at home. GK #1 started Voluntary Pre-Kindegarten today. I am really excited for him, he needs some additional help with language skills, etc.

But, with school starting today it made me think back to when I was in school. Specifically high school. As I drove by our local high school I looked in the school parking lot and noticed how there weren't that many cars there...yet. Which is because there is a whole group of 15 year old kids just waiting to get their driver's licenses. In a few more months that lot will be a lot fuller.

Again, it made me think back to when I got my driver's license. I had the privilege of driving the car that my mother used. It was big, red, it was a convertible. I didn't care, it was a car. The day I got my license (dad could not believe that I actually passed the test on the first try) he went out and bought another car for mom to drive. Now when I took my drivers tests, not only did you have to do all the road driving, merging with traffic, changing lanes, parking, you also had to parallel park the car, back out of an alley into traffic. All those things that they don't teach now.

Anyway, I did all of this in a 1962 Buick Electra 225 convertible. Yes, the car below is the car I learned to drive in and yes, it is living in Florida with us now. My father's cousin bought the car new, my father bought it off of him in 1969, in 1976 I learned to drive.

Yup,this is my baby. She and I did a lot of things together. When you are a teenager and have a car....
Thank God she keeps her secrets!!

Nice Car, I could only dream to drive a car like that, let alone learn to drive in one.
